Everything is bigger in Texas

By: Robert | June 25th, 2007

I know its hard to imagine a must win game at this point of the season but if you look at the western conference table you’ll see that while Dallas sits 3 points ahead, Houston has 2 games in hand, which means the lead is a perilous one. With respect to Tom Clancy an FC Dallas win on Saturday effictively renames the rest of the western conference schedule “The Hunt for the Red and Blue in October.”

There have been those who have spoken about the FC Dallas schedule and their recent history of fading down the strech (finished second two years ago, first last year, you know on second thought I’m pretty sure other teams wish they could “fade” as well.) But those guys have it all wrong. In the seasons past FC Dallas was playing every third or fourth day, this year because of the schedule (we’ve played at least two more games than anyone else with most of our games on the road) down the strech we’ll be the freshest team in the league. Even though we do get “punished” with extra games by going deep into the US Open Cup and playing in the Superliga.

If we beat those Dreamsicles on Saturday, for the rest of the season MLS teams will be coming to Dallas to play a well-rested (we only have three games in August,) front-running Hoops squad in 90+ degree heat. That might prove to be the most daunting task in the league. We’ve all heard the comments, in fact weeks ago I was saying the same thing but the west could be in trouble come Saturday. Because if the 3 points go to the Hoops, Los Angeles, Real Salt Lake, Colorado, Chivas USA and Houston will learn the hard way that this is Dallas, where the FC stands for “futile criticisms.”
