Now that I am sober….revs post game.
By: Scott |
I decided today kids to start this off on a positive note. FCD looked great in the first half. Possession was good. The team was aggressive. We went into half time with a lead. Then what every FCD fan dreads happens. Schellas had to coach. Steve Nicol went into half time and did what Schellas seems to to be able to do. He made adjustments to what was going on in the Hoops were throwing at him and came out firing in the second half.
That is where the bus driver screwed up. When the Revs put an extra midfielder in to press the attack at the half we didnt have an answer. When Nicol put in Steve Ralston, someone who has hurt FCD time and time again, there wasnt an answer. Our midfield did their job admirably. DvB is doing what FCD brought him in for. DF is creating plays. And Dax is quietly doing all the things that arent going to show up on a scoreline but need to be done. This is the only team that I know of that can out shoot their opponents and still lose. Second half everything FCD was doing right went by the wayside. As a team FCD couldnt keep possession, we still were taking shots but the supporters section at Foxboro saw the ball more than the back of the net, and when adjustments were made the bus driver took the one guy that has provided any offense this year out of the game and exchanged him with a guy who hasnt found his game yet. Eventually speed and pressure did exactly what it was supposed to do……it killed.
fcd/revs at the half
By: Scott |Wow a totally different team. Changes in the back line are working. Whatever schellas told them to light a fire…
FCD v. Revs.
By: Scott |
This game is all going to come down to the defensive side of the ball. The Revs have a few new young guys with good wheels. Unfortunately for the Chivas game they have showed the rest of the league what they have to do to beat us. What the ironic thing is the thing that beats us is the exact game that we have been playing. Chivas took the ball over the top and ran the ball down. The Revs have the wheels to make this happen. If Ray gets pummeled again its going to be a long day.
On the offensive side of the ball I think things will start to happen. We got a lot more touches in the middle of the field than in the Fire game. That play lead to some great service from the wings. Now all that has to happen is Kenny and the rest of the offense has to finish.
Keys to the game for FCD-
-FINISH, FINISH, and FINISH. Almost only counts in horseshoes and hand granades. We can get all the great service that we want into the box but if no one is on the other side it really makes no difference.
-Defense. We have gotten burned alot in the past two games. Everyone in our defensive back four has looked horrible. The defense needs to pick it up so as to take some of pressure off of Ray Burse. With Dario in the lineup I would have worried so much about him being pummeled. Ray cant stand up to that kind of pressure yet. Rebounds have to be cleared.
-Flexiblity. Schellas has to be flexible enough to make changes quickly….and make some of the right changes. Subs for the past two games have been questionable at best.
Final score…another loss for the hoops 3-1. This team is just not coming together fast enough. We got fed a line in the preseason and now reality is showing its ugly head. The vaunted FCD system that Schellas was going to bring this team is going to need an overhaul if he doesnt get this win.
A study in coach speak….
By: Scott |“It was a very frustrating and disappointing result,” FCD coach Schellas Hyndman said. “I think we’re a better team than what we showed, but until the players start picking it up and playing with a little bit more enthusiasm, pride, whatever it might be – just frustrating.”
I love this quote from our illustrious leader. Alot of what is happening on the pitch falls at the feet of the players. They are the ones that ultimately have to perform. But as I listen to Schellas speak its almost as if he is just an interested observer. All through the off season we have been led to believe that the guys were prepared to hop on the bus with Schellas and his new system. He was supposed to make this team a more defensive team. We were looking for a number 10 that could distribute the ball through the middle. Ok now lets talk about what is really happening. Our defense is so porous that you could drive a mack truck through it. Chivas just played chip and run and kicked our butts. We couldnt hit our #10 if he was 12 feet tall and built. I keep wondering if we need to send him out with semifore flags.
Now my point. Great coaches inspire. Lombardi. The Special One. Sir Alex. They all inspire their players and get the most out of them. Those coaches can come into a situation and mold the situation to his needs. We had the talent. We needed a coach to get that talent to work on a consistant basis. So inconclusion take some points from those coaches Schellas. Dont pass all the blame to your players, after all now this is now your team. Take some responsiblity. You had enough time to put this team together and make it gel.
game report.
By: Scott |We sucks. ok game report aside. There was not much to be happy about sunday. Again we cant finish. Our defense was horrible. There is no where to go but up.
On a positive note I attended a lunch with some of the FO members. For the first time in a long time I have a warm fuzzy feeling about what is happening at the Hut. The new marketing director seems to be really on the ball. Edwardo the head of hispanic marketing is a really cool guy. Of course the rock in the sales department Kevin Lindstrom was there. They spent 3 hours taking all the heat that some of the most hard core FCD fans had to offer.
I left there feeling like there was actually a business plan that the FO is going to execute that is going to work. They are reaching out to fans and really listening to what they have to say. Now if we can get the onfield stuff to come along then we will be in business.
WE SUCK

Just about says it all. Havent even got a chance to watch the game yet on ye olde TIVO….from the online comments dont know that I want to. But for the sake of the blogging public I will be back tomarrow with my comments on the game.

IM BACCCCKKKKK!
By: Scott |Sorry for the time off guys. Had a little health issue but im back. Since we last talked our beloved Hoops took on the Burn for the Brimstone Cup. And it was not a stellar game by most accounts. Kenny did get the goal of the year in the first game. This was the game that Schellas was supposed to sell us on his brand of football. Evidentally his brand of football includes no defense and hitting every part of the goal but the back of the net. Lets just suffice it to say its going to be a long season if this is the standard we are going to live up to.
Now Sunday the Hoops have a matinee against Chivas USA. Under normal circumstances I would say that this is going to be a walk over. But we now have Dario out of the goal and out defense looks like low grade swiss cheese. We will be getting our captain back so that should help with the defense. Hopefully we can get the ball to our new #10 and let him try and create…we got him like 10 touches against the Burn…10.
Well kids I am going call this as a 2-1 win for the beloved Hoops.
Be back Sunday after the game…
FCD v. Chicago….Brimstone Cup time baby!
By: Scott |The only realistic shot that the Hoops have for silverware this season. If you look at the teams on paper the Fire should be a the favorite. Both teams are have some injuries and discipline problems. Most telling of all will be the Mexican superman coming off the bench. If Blanco is not able to play for long periods of time the Fire should have a problem breaking down the Hoops. Alot of the Fire offense runs through Blanco. The Fire have had a better than average preseason in comparison to ours. Unfortunately I see FCD trailing alot of this game and eventually losing 3-1 or maybe 3-2. Our defense is still too porous.
MLS Kick off!!!!! A study of two teams.
By: Scott |Wow what a first game of the season! Unfortunately real life has been interferring with my footie watching. From the highlights I saw it looked like the roles should have been reversed. It looked like Seattle should have been the team that almost made it to the promised land last year. Zigi should run a clinic on how to build a team in the MLS. He went out and got a young striker and paired him with a veteran who has been in the league awhile. This way Jaqua could ease Montero into the league and keep him in check. He went out and got an experienced goalkeeper in Kasey Keller. And last but not least he got his poster boy. I mean lets be honest here. Mr. Lundberg has his best soccer days behind him. But he does one thing….HE PUTS BUTTS IN THE SEATS! Lets face it every soccer mom in the seattle metropolitan area asked for Santa to bring their seasons to them in their stockings. If Zigi gets some good soccer out of him in return it will be worth the investment. It looks like Zigi is getting the best out of his players. He took what he had available to him and molded a system around what he had to work with.
Now how about them Hoops. We have a mix match bunch of players that really havent had a chance to gel. This is evidenced in the number of goals we have given up in the preseason. Our midfield is weak. We got the number 10 that the bus driver was looking for but how good that pans out depends on how fast David Ferriera pans out. We are still getting beat like red headed step children on set pieces. The locker room, according to the players, is a wonderful place now. The bus driver says he is looking for more accountablity from the players. Seems like hes got that now. What is going to happen if FCD drops a couple of games? He’s got the players that he wanted. He’s got the system. Life is lovely at the Hut.
It will be interesting to see the beginning of the season for the Hoops. I suggest the bus driver fire up the TIVO and see what Zigi is doing. I can only hope that the bus driver has the Hoops are as prepared as the Sounders were tonight.

By: Scott |Was out today and saw a bus with an FCD ad on the side of it. I was thinking yeah finally the FO woke up and spent some money. Then as the bus passed by the keystone cops routine played itself out. THE AD WAS IN SPANISH! I live in the whitest part of town.
They actually did get a mention on the local morning show. Would have been better if it wasnt spring break here. I guarantee people were either on the way to work at 9 or the kids were still sleeping off the night before.
Again money well spent….
