A study in coach speak….
By: Scott | March 31st, 2009“It was a very frustrating and disappointing result,” FCD coach Schellas Hyndman said. “I think we’re a better team than what we showed, but until the players start picking it up and playing with a little bit more enthusiasm, pride, whatever it might be – just frustrating.”
I love this quote from our illustrious leader. Alot of what is happening on the pitch falls at the feet of the players. They are the ones that ultimately have to perform. But as I listen to Schellas speak its almost as if he is just an interested observer. All through the off season we have been led to believe that the guys were prepared to hop on the bus with Schellas and his new system. He was supposed to make this team a more defensive team. We were looking for a number 10 that could distribute the ball through the middle. Ok now lets talk about what is really happening. Our defense is so porous that you could drive a mack truck through it. Chivas just played chip and run and kicked our butts. We couldnt hit our #10 if he was 12 feet tall and built. I keep wondering if we need to send him out with semifore flags.
Now my point. Great coaches inspire. Lombardi. The Special One. Sir Alex. They all inspire their players and get the most out of them. Those coaches can come into a situation and mold the situation to his needs. We had the talent. We needed a coach to get that talent to work on a consistant basis. So inconclusion take some points from those coaches Schellas. Dont pass all the blame to your players, after all now this is now your team. Take some responsiblity. You had enough time to put this team together and make it gel.
