Carlos Ruiz chat on ESPN.com
By: Robert | September 21st, 2007I recieved a couple emails recently from people wondering if I could post the ESPN.com chat with Carlos Ruiz from earlier in the week. I meant to have this up earlier but then Carlos Ruiz brought out that hair…I love that hair. Here’s the chat, better late than never, the only thing that stands out to me are his props for Tyronne Marshall (Kenny Cooper would seriously disagree.) Anyways, enjoy!
Chris: What footballer did you look up to growing up?
Carlos Ruiz: In Guatemala I liked Juan Carlos Plata, he was one of the best players in Guatemala. And of course Diego Armando Maradona, I got to see him the World Cup in 1986 and he was one of the best in the world.

Jim plano texas: Carlos: you look much healthier and quicker recently. How do you feel? Is your knee ok?
Carlos Ruiz: My knee is much better, and it’s nice not to have an injury this season. I feel very healthy but I want to finish the season strong in order to help my team win a championship!
——————————————————————————–
Craig: Who is the best defender in the MLS? Who is the beest defender in the world?
Carlos Ruiz: In the world, I would say Alessandro Nesta and Fabio Cannavaro are the two best defenders. In MLS, I would have to say there are many good player but Tyrone Marshall and Clerance Goodson are two players that stick out in my mind.
——————————————————————————–
Collin (Texas): Who do you most enjoy watching play in today’s game?>
Carlos Ruiz: Well Ronaldinho plays incredibly well, as does Lionel Messi; he is amazing. Messi for sure will be the best player in the world one day. I also like watching Cristiano Ronaldo. I love watching those types of players. For me, right now, these guys are the best players in the world.
——————————————————————————–
Adam (Allen, Tx): You are considered one of the best strikers in the MLS, have you ever considered moving to europe?
Carlos Ruiz: Well, I am happy in this country and being in the MLS. If something were to happen with Europe and it was good for me and the league I would think about it. But right now I am happy to be at FC Dallas and I want to make history with this team and win. So at this moment I am very happy playing for FC Dallas and playing in the MLS.
——————————————————————————–
Mike: Kaka, Messi, C. Ronaldo: Which player will be remembered as the best?
Carlos Ruiz: Lionel Messi. He is younger, but he plays on one of the best clubs in the world. So I think Messi will be the best player in the world very soon.
——————————————————————————–
Kirk (Dallas TX): Hey Fish — What do you think FCD’s chances are of getting ahead of Houston or Chivas in the playoff race?
Carlos Ruiz: Well I think we have a very good chance, because we have 6 more regular season games, and only two of those games are away games. We have Houston and Chivas at home so if we can win those games we will show we are one of the best teams in the West. But we have to win today and against LA before we play those other two teams. But we have a great opportunity to emerge as the best team in the West over the next few games.
——————————————————————————–
Adam (Allen, Tx): What is the most memorable moment for you in your career?
Carlos Ruiz: I have experienced a lot of great moments but one of the best was winning a title with the Galaxy in 2002 and being named the MVP. And of course playing with my national team was an amazing experience. I also have the opportunity to break my country’s scoring record, so that can be a special moment I can look forward to in the future.
——————————————————————————–
islamo (Grand Prairie, TX): what has playing with denilson been like?
Carlos Ruiz: He is a great person, and he is a great player. This is player that has won a World Cup with Brazil in 2002. He has to get used to the league, but once he gets used to playing here he will be one of the best players in the MLS.
——————————————————————————–
Michael (Fairfax, VA by way of Columbus, OH): What is the most intense stadium and game atmosphere you’ve been a part of in MLS?
Carlos Ruiz: Two stadiums come to mind, the Home Depot Center and RFK stadium.
Carlos Ruiz: Thank you everyone for your questions. I would also like to say hi to all the Guatemalans living in the US. And don’t forget to watch our game tonight against Chicago, on ESPN2, starting at 7 p.m. ET!
Not much in that like I said, but it doesn’t matter because in Dallas the FC stands for “fired-up for competition” (yeah, i know, but work with me, these are not easy)
HOOPS PRIDE!

Two factors keep El Pescadito from being the world-renown goal-scorer he should be: MLS and Guatemala. Pity on those who can’t see beyond that.
I really think that he’s one of the best strikers of the last several years, in any league. Lots of fun to watch.

I can’t believe ESPN expects people to pay for interviews like that. I thought they were going to ask him which was his favorite New Kid on the Block growing up.
As someone who’s father was born in Guatemala, it’s great to have such a high profile striker associated with the country. But really, he’s not European material. That said, he could have a great career in MLS.
