Now that I am sober….revs post game.

By: Scott | April 5th, 2009

I decided today kids to start this off on a positive note. FCD looked great in the first half. Possession was good. The team was aggressive. We went into half time with a lead. Then what every FCD fan dreads happens. Schellas had to coach. Steve Nicol went into half time and did what Schellas seems to to be able to do. He made adjustments to what was going on in the Hoops were throwing at him and came out firing in the second half.

That is where the bus driver screwed up. When the Revs put an extra midfielder in to press the attack at the half we didnt have an answer. When Nicol put in Steve Ralston, someone who has hurt FCD time and time again, there wasnt an answer. Our midfield did their job admirably. DvB is doing what FCD brought him in for. DF is creating plays. And Dax is quietly doing all the things that arent going to show up on a scoreline but need to be done. This is the only team that I know of that can out shoot their opponents and still lose. Second half everything FCD was doing right went by the wayside. As a team FCD couldnt keep possession, we still were taking shots but the supporters section at Foxboro saw the ball more than the back of the net, and when adjustments were made the bus driver took the one guy that has provided any offense this year out of the game and exchanged him with a guy who hasnt found his game yet. Eventually speed and pressure did exactly what it was supposed to do……it killed.

I was at thee game, and Dallas was hardly “great” in the first half. The goal was flukey, and most of their possession was in their own half. Don’t forget: the Revs were without three or four of their key players. It was our own poor finishing that kept us from getting at least one in the first half.

The crowd was so silent after the first Dallas goal not because they were upset or disappointed, but because they were SHOCKED. Fluke goals happen in football, of course, but it really came out of nowhere as the team really looked poor in the first half.

I would argue that Dallas was a little better, in fact, in the second half. But to suggest they were outcoached or something seems totally wrong. They were just the weaker team on Saturday night.

Remember something Ted. Over the past two games we have been used to total crap in Dallas. The first half was heads and shoulders above the last two games. They were great in our eyes. At least there was some pressure on the goal.

I agree they were far from stellar but they were heads and shoulders above what they have been.
