Open letter to Kelly Weller…or anyone else in the FO that is listening.

By: Scott | June 27th, 2009

Hi guys-

We have talked before. I am noticing a disturbing trend on the internets regarding our little soccer team. Yes I did say our cause you know what we are part of a whole. Obviously we wouldnt exist without you…but you guys wouldnt exist without us. There is very little that you or frankly anyone can do about the on field activities. The guys on the team and the coach have to take care of that. But what you can do is notice trends. Notice the amount of action you are getting on the internets these days. Notice that the comments about OUR team on OUR blog. That blog uses to be a hive of activity after game days. Now WE are lucky if WE can get 10 responses. Other areas of the internet like Big Soccer are slowing to a crawl. Please notice the apathy. Please note the trend of quite frankly not giving a damn. You are always going to have hardcore fans. The infernos and El Matadors of the world are always going to show up. You need the not-so-hardcore fans to keep this team going. They need to be shown that going to FC Dallas games are an experience. And that experience has to be based around the SOCCER! Accentuate the soccer…quit trying to make everyone happy. Bring it back to the soccer cause that is what counts. That is what is going to keep this team going.

Now sitting in your chair you are probably thinking what the hell does he know. Well I know that HSG is how shall I say frugal. I know that they are probably asking you to do more with less. Now is the time where you need to think out of the box. Use what you have infront of you. You have a great supporters group. You have the internet. Use them. There is alot of things that you can do for a relatively small amount of money. I will give you the first one for free. I have invited Kevin Lindstrom and Bobby to a networking group that I know of in Frisco. I havent been as active as I would like to be in the last two months but do something gimmicky . Send them into that meeting dressed like refs or hell send Bobby into that meeting in his old uni. I saw it on the internet when one team was giving out red cards and yellow cards to promote season tickets. Do the same damn thing. Imitation is the sincerest form for flattery. It is a little gimmicky in a professional environment but it will make an impression. The people in that room will remember who Kevin is and who Bobby is.

That is what I think that the team should be going for right now….to be remembered. Do something goofy…do something special….but do something. Cause right now if you wait too much longer you wont have anything to fix…

Well put! I know a bunch of us in the Inferno would be willing to go above and beyond. And exactly… concentrate on the soccer, forget the bouncy house and stupid Drew Cary glass give aways. FO needs to get on this yesterday. We have tons of ideas as to how to help… just reach out to us!
