Ramon Nunez chat on ESPN.com

By: Robert | October 4th, 2007

Here’s the final (technically it was done second) chat on ESPN.com with an FC Dallas player. I thought about not posting it because Ramon wears a Chivas USA shirt, but there is actually an interesting question about growing up in one nation and playing internationally for another. Which is an intriguing concept that I don’t think anyone who hasn’t lived through it can properly understand. So here is Ramon Nunez from April 25th:

Buzzmaster: Ramon should be here any minute. So keep sending in your MLS questions!

Buzzmaster: We've got Ramon!
____________________________________________

Charlie (Milwaukee): Big game tonight, Ramon, what are you guys looking to do to shut down New York?

Ramon Nunez: Just get at them from the start. Play with intensity throughout the match. If we can play with intensity the whole 90 minutes we can win the game.
____________________________________________

Greg (Utah): Ramon, which MLS city is your favorite to visit on the road?

Ramon Nunez: I would have to say New York is my favorite city.

____________________________________________

Nate (Dallas, TX): Great seeing you out on the town yesterday. Being an SMU alum, do you get the chance to go back and hang out around SMU often?

Ramon Nunez: I do. I still keep in touch with all my teammates from SMU. Whenever I get a chance, I hang out with them as much as possible.
____________________________________________

Sandon (Washington, DC): Congrats on the great start to the season. How tough was it to decide to play internationally for Honduras rather then wait for the chance to potentially play for the US?

Ramon Nunez: I've played with U-20 Honduras team, but I think I can still play for the US full national team if I decide to. I haven't played for the Honduras full team yet. So I think the chance is still there.
____________________________________________

Jose Antonio Lopez: Will you be playing in the Pan American Games this summer with Honduras?

Ramon Nunez: I don't know. I haven't gotten the call from them. So right now I'm just concentrating on playing here with FC Dallas and doing my best.
_____________________________________________

Rob, Seattle: Hi Ramon - I was wondering if you guys can sense a greater buzz in the stadiums this year. Are fans more excited for MLS than in years past? Best of luck tonight.

Ramon Nunez: Thanks first. MLS is getting a lot more attention than in the past. That's motivating for us.
_____________________________________________

Ben from Syracuse NY: Ramon- As your side seems to be the early favorite to clinch the West, how do you prepare to play against the team in the East?

Ramon Nunez: Basically the same as we prepare for any team. It's still early in the season. We look at every team the same.
______________________________________________

Cole, Raleigh NC: Hey Ramon, outside of FC Dallas, what is your favorite football club?

Ramon Nunez: I would have to say Barcelona.
______________________________________________

Graham(Plano, TX): Do you feel like Toja and McCarty and yourself are still gelling? And have you gotten to their different styles of play?

Ramon Nunez: I think so. We're starting to gel. It's still early in the season. Toja has only played four games in the MLS so far. So it's going to take a little bit for him. But I think we're working together very well.
______________________________________________

Jose Antonio Lopez: Do any of your teammates on the Honduran National Team give any kind of grief for having grown up in the U.S. and not Honduras? Was that a barrier in getting along with them?

Ramon Nunez: Yeah, they call me an American. I've grown up here and gone to school here. It's in a teasing manner. It wasn't a barrier at all with them. My parents have raised me in a Honduran manner. I still speak Spanish. So not really.
______________________________________________

Kevin (NJ): Two words for your boys: SHUT...DOWN!!! What do you say?

Ramon Nunez: Our team is prepared for that. I think the most important team is being focused on our team. We're playing at home in front of our fans. I think that will make the different.
______________________________________________

Antonio (denver): How many games have you played for Honduras?

Ramon Nunez: I've played three qualifying matches for the U-20 World Cup and three in the World Cup.
______________________________________________

Jesse (Baltimore, MD): Hi Ramon. Who is the best midfielder in MLS? Who is the best striker?

Ramon Nunez: I think Gomez showed that he was the best midfielder last year. I think this year it's hard to tell because there are a lot of guys pushing for that title.
______________________________________________

Nate (Dallas, TX): Ramon, you and Dax McCarty are two of the young and emerging stars of the team that will hopefully form the core of the FC Dallas midfield for years to come. You've already connected on one score this season. What do you have to do to continue developing that chemistry on the pitch?

Ramon Nunez: I think it all comes from training together. If we can keep on doing it on the training ground that it will transfer into the game. It's pretty much doing it every day.

Ramon Nunez: Come out and support us tonight. It's going to be a great night. We're looking to get a win. Thanks to all the people that wrote in.

So there’s Ramon and unfortunately that’s all the escape I can provide, back to reality and to drinking away the pain in Dallas where the FC stands for “fragile character.”
