Ready to take my beating…

I havent had much to write about lately. And my fellow bloggers in Houston did make it known that the Houstank was going to kick our butts. Gee that makes me ask the question. How come if you guys are so good how come you could only manage one goal? How come your power player Mr. Chang couldnt hit the broad side of a barn? Dont get me wrong me and my 4 cats and 2 dogs could have walked on the field and had a better showing that FCD….but you guys are supposed to be so much better that us. Dont you have at least two regular members of the MNT?

Now on to other things. As my favorite political commentator is fond of now saying this is a WTF moment. If you come to the FCD/Sounders game this weekend you will be the fond owner of a pair of Drew Carey glasses. What the hell was the marketing staff of this team thinking? Part of the reason to pass out a premium is to extend a brand. If someone holds onto a premium past the date that it is handed out it has done the job. I can tell you that I have more FCD soccer balls than I probably want to admit but I HAVE HELD ON TO THEM. The glasses will be thrown away on the way out of the stadium or stuffed in a drawer, Buzz at the 3rd degree has debated on Big Soccer that being sponsored by two tv stations is going to raise the profile of the MLS and FCD. The any coverage is better than no coverage arguement. This might be true if something of note doesnt happen in Mavericks or Cowboys land in town that day. If Tony Romo gets a hangnail that day it will get a half an hour worth of coverage with multiple angles of offending nail only to leave FCD with little or no coverage. Once again FCD could have taken this angle so much further. Take advantage of the Inferno and get them out there. They could have gotten the Inferno and El Matador out on the plaza in front of the AAC in the Drew Carey glasses and FCD jerseys before the Mavericks game this weekend. Have the Mavs man out there fighting with Hooper or whatever he is called. They would have needed to get the approval of the Mavericks but when has Mark Cuban ever turned down a circus. If they could have gotten this done they would have also gotten some national coverage cause the games were on TNT. There would have been some shots somewhere im sure that would have gotten the “Drews” on TV. Instead we are going to see a 3/4 empty stadium with people that have the dumb glasses on. They could have leverage the realtionship with the television much more.

I feel for the marketing crew for this team. They are trying to market a product that is pretty bad right now. They are trying to market a team that is slow but surely losing their base. But because of all this they need to think outside the box. If they dont the rest of the season is going to even longer than it already is.
