Was Heath Pearce traded against Hyndman’s wishes?
By: Harlan | February 17th, 2011It’s an interesting perspective, considering SH’s track record of removing people that don’t get on the “bus”. And we all know about his and Pearce’s little spat at the end of the year. That said, Buzz Carrick over at 3rd Degree has a quote from Technical Director Barry Gorman, regarding the trade:
Via 3rd Degree:
“We try to keep the coaches out of the direct line with these things. But Schellas did argue and fight for holding onto an experienced member of his squad. Schellas is looking at his squad and who he has available, and Heath was an important part of the squad last year. So moving forward, yes, he would like to keep him. But the reality is what we spoke about before.”
The interpretation from Buzz is that Schellas wasn’t exactly keen on the idea of losing his left back. I’m inclined to agree. Pearce contributed so well up until the end of the regular season, and it would be hard to just let him go for nothing.
Which brings us to the next question: does this pave the way for a striker? I really do hope so. While I’m feeling ready to give Luna a shot…I’m not sure he’s ready to take the role 100%. (I’m not forgetting Milton, by the way, I just am not positive how much he can stay healthy.) The feeling yesterday, before we heard about the Pearce trade, was that it was extremely unlikely a striker would be found prior to the beginning of the season, and would have to wait until the Summer transfer window.
Only time will tell…
