We’re getting Denilson apparently, no the other one.

By: Robert | July 19th, 2007

Well it appears that I don’t have any pull in the FC Dallas boardroom because the Hoops seem to be going forward in trying to acquire Brazilian midfielder Denìlson (not the Arsenal one). Since they insist on this course of action let’s discuss what that could mean for the team. Most MLS clubs attempt to use the ball to achieve an objective; Denìlson however, uses the ball as conduit of emotion. I don’t want to stereotype Brazilian soccer players, but he’s a stereotypical Brazilian soccer player (Ha!) When he signs the contract Denìlson will immediately become the most talented player in MLS. There will be no one in the league that can match what he can do either on the pitch or in a video game; but remember he’s been languishing in the Saudi Premier League for a reason, lack of focus. If Steve Morrow can get through to him, FC Dallas may be able to field the most fun team in the league …sorry DC United.

Denìlson will add to our group of attacking midfielders who can get the ball to Carlos Ruiz in a position for him to be affective (remember Ruiz needs four or five shots a game to be at his best.) Denìlson will be put on the field to be aggressive and to attack defenses with the ball at his feet.

But his greatest strength does not resolve our greatest weakness. FC Dallas is already a team that is very good on the ball and the way to defend teams that are great on the ball is to not give them space to operate. Opponent’s backlines push forward into the early stages of the midfield in an attempt to deny space to Toja and Alvarez and unless Denìlson was somehow able to achieve what so many before him have failed and found the lost fountain of youth in those Arabian sands (he’s an old 29 years and 10 months) defenses will not back up and because he’s skilled enough to dribble through a rainstorm and not be touched by water it may actually embolden their resolve to clog any passing lanes and deny space to operate. By signing Denìlson Steve Murrow must believe that either Dominic Oduro or Ricardinho (waiting for his green card) has not only the pace but the proper touch to push backlines farther back in the second half of the season. We’ve seen one on the field, now its time to see the other.

Sorry for the lateness of today’s (tonight’s) post, I’m headed out to Yellowstone National Park for a long weekend and I’ve been cleaning and packing all day. So that’s it from me for the weekend, be back on Tuesday if you want to see video of me in the woods, its kinda like this. Hope I can make it back to Dallas where the FC stands for “fond of civilization.”

HOOPS PRIDE!
